Well, the promised thunderstorm never materialized and our power didn’t go out. So, somewhat luckily perhaps, the Drobo finally finished re-organizing itself at 10.15PM this evening… meaning that it’s been cooking (and thus unprotected) for pretty close to five days. Unacceptable, I’d call it.
I now have to repeat the whole process (since there remains one more 1TB drive to swap for a 2TB one)!
I shall be doing this next drive upgrade completely under Linux, though: I hadn’t realised that packages for the Drobo Dashboard (or its Linux equivalent, anyway) are available in the Debian respositories and are only an aptitude install away. Do an aptitude install drobo-utils python-qt4 and you’re done. After that, a simple drobom view will get you a (pretty rough-and-ready, but completely functional) GUI Dashboard equivalent. So at least I can switch off the Windows PC for the next four days, anyway!
