Animal Magic 2

After my last post, I was asked about our finches:

finches

Those are all double-barred finches. Usually, we get the entire bowl full of them.

And because someone asked: yes, we have had an echidna on the property:

Weirdest things!

Animal magic

Monday, August 10th, 2009

I haven’t posted anything about the assorted wildlife around our home lately. So here’s a quick update on visitors over the weekend just gone.

Saturday morning, and we had these turn up:

birds

There’s plenty of little finches (double-barred and some other type); just the one bronze-winged pigeon (usually, there are dozens at a time) and a male/female pair of King parrots -a species we’ve not seen at our place before now. Later on that morning:

mouse

I’m not entirely certain if this one’s a particular nice animal to have turn up: if it’s a common house mouse, then maybe not! But if it’s some rare and exotic Australian mammal, then fair enough! I’ll give it the benefit of the doubt for now… though there’s no mistaking that chunk of wallaby poo it’s eyeing off hungrily! Talking of which…

Saturday evening:

milhous

That’s Chandler tucking into the cat food -and her joey Milhous having a hop around whilst she’s not looking.

Sunday morning, Chandler was back for a drink:

chandlercoffee

She’d already drained the cats’ waterbowl dry at this stage but nevertheless decided that whatever it was in the cup on the coffee table smelled good enough to investigate. She hopped her way well into the house, which is quite common for her to do, and then stuck her snout in the coffee cup (and the warm coffee it contained) before we’d had a chance to react. Once she’d done that, we were forced to help her finish it off (it was either that or have the whole thing tipped over the floor). She’s had a small glass of white wine before now, using the same sneak-up-and-grab-before-they-notice approach; but this was her first cup of coffee. No harm done, it would seem, since she was back on Sunday evening.
