Downloads

I’ve made a few files available for download on one blog post or another: hunting them down gets increasingly difficult as the quantity of blog posts and articles continuously expands. So, here’s all of them, nicely condensed into one, simple reference list:

Salisbury An infrastructure to automatically build a “Salisbury Server” which can, in turn be used to auto-build Oracle servers, both Standalone and RAC. No Internet connection required when building either type of server. See Main Article
Portland A script to automate the configuration of a RCSL server for home Desktop PC duties. This involves installing lots of useful software, via the Internet, such as VLC, Handbrake, LibreOffice and much more. See Main Article
Palmerston A script to automate the preparation of a RCSL server for Oracle duties, but without downloading anything from the wider Internet, to be used in conjunction with a Kickstart O/S installation, which gets the software prerequisites sorted independently, using only packages available on standard installation media. See Main Article
Gladstone A script to automate the installation of Oracle prerequisites on RHEL5/RHEL6 and its clones. Works with Centos, Scientific Linux, Fedora, Debian, Linux Mint and Ubuntu, amongst others. Is downloaded and run as root after O/S installation, and then proceeds to download lots of packages from the Internet. See Main Article
VirtualBox Guest Additions If you build VirtualBox VMs, and you try to install the Guest Additions, only to be told that they have to be downloaded. Here’s where they can all be downloaded from, no matter what your VirtualBox version happens to be.

Usage Guidelines

  • If you are running an RCSL distro and want Oracle 11g on it, use Salisbury.
  • If you are running an RCSL distro, want Oracle 10g or 11g on it, don’t expect to be running RAC and don’t want to use an Internet connection to download software, use Palmerston. (Mostly superseded by Salisbury if you’re only using 11g).
  • If you are running a non-RCSL distro and want to install Oracle 10g or 11g on it, use Gladstone.
  • If you are running an RCSL distro as your main desktop and want it to run lots of useful desktop software, but not Oracle, use Portland.

As of 11th April 2013, only Salisbury is maintained. Other scripts will probably still work but may need some editing to deal with latest versions of distros, packages etc.
