Good-looking, witty and vibrantly young (no matter what the photograph looks like), I live in Sydney, Australia and work as an Oracle database administrator/developer. Whilst I like nothing better than discussing the subtleties of Shared Pool management on a Friday night over a glass of red, I reserve passion for the works of Benjamin Britten, Johann Sebastian Bach and Giuseppe Verdi. Lady Gaga… well, not so much.
In case anyone’s interested, the photo in this site’s banner was taken just outside the backdoor of my home in Pheasants Nest after a particularly heavy rainstorm. The rainbow is completely real and has not been enhanced in Photoshop… and, yes, as best I could tell, we were in it!
The picture at the right, on the other hand, was taken of me standing in front of the wonderful main dish of the Parkes Radio Observatory.

I must say I was very surprised to find that you’ve restarted your blog! And even more surprised to find that the blog has been up since 2009! Ever since you stopped the Dizwell blog a few years ago (I think after the “10 thing you didn’t know..” fiasco) I’ve been doing a Google search for “Howard Rogers Dizwell” every 6 months or so but I only ever got forum posts mentioning the end of your blog and a couple of empty blogs on “My Opera” and “blogHi!”.
Any chance you’ll do a hand-holding guide for Oracle APEX installations on RHEL/CenOS/SUSE?
Great to see that you’re back though…
Actually, the blog has been up, uninterrupted, since 2000. It’s just that some of the content was protected as a result of the ’8 inane things you didn’t want to know about me but I’m going to tell you anyway because this is a community so you just have to put up with it’ fiasco.
And, of course, there have been one or two domain changes and hosting-provider alterations to contend with!
And it’s true that all content prior to 2009 remains embargoed (but is probably out-of-date, anyway, so it shouldn’t make any difference to anyone). And it’s additionally true that I still avoid forums and try not to publicise the blog anywhere, too… but, in general, “back” isn’t really the right word -though I realise others might feel differently about that
Apex isn’t really my thing, though, so I doubt that’ll be coming around any time soon. Sorry.
Hi sir,
I am not sure that you would remember me but I have asked a lot of questions to you on both the forums, dizwell and OTN and it was always an honor to get a reply from you, I mean it! I really wish that one day, I can finally meet you in person and thank you for all the knowledge and guidance that you imparted to people like me.
With best wishes and kind regards
Aman….
